Nine months for attempting to steal a pregnant goat

Cape Coast May 9, GNA- Kweku Penamang, a 36-year-old porter, based in Cape Coast was on Tuesday sentenced to nine months imprisonment in hard labour by a circuit at Cape Coast for attempting to steal a pregnant goat valued at 250,000 cedis belonging to one Mr. Anthony Edum. He pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting, chief inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court presided over by Mr. Beresford Acquah, that Mr. Edum lives and rears goats at Pedu, whiles Penamang also lives at Tantri, both suburbs of Cape Coast.

He said in the early hours of Monday, Mr. Edum, whose house is near the police headquarters, was awakened from his sleep by the bleating of his goats in a pen, and when he went out to enquire, he found that one of the goats, which was pregnant, had been strangled. He said on seeing Mr. Edum approaching the pen, Penamang hid under a hen coop, but Mr. Edum saw him, raised the alarm and with the help of the police, he was apprehended and he admitted the offence in his caution statement.
