Ho, Nov. 20, GNA - Custodians of the Nogokpo shrine in the Ketu South District on Wednesday handed over a suspect who had gone there to seek spiritual protection against arrest for allegedly defiling a 13- year old pupil.

Kofi Kubi, 58, a carpenter at the Public Works Department in Ho was handed over to the Chief of Sokode-Lokoe near Ho, who handed him over to the police.

ASP Augustine Dogbegah in charge of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Volta Region told the Ghana News Agency that on October 30, Kubi gave the victim and her parents a sachet of soap and one Ghana cedis.

He said Kubi told the blind mother of the victim that the victim should use the soap to wash her school uniform and the one Ghana cedis to trim the uniform, which he said was too long.

ASP Dogbegah said Kubi later signalled the victim to accompany him for something and upon reaching his room, he defiled her.

He said the next day, the victim felt pains in her private part and narrated her ordeal to her mother who made a report to the police. ASP Dogbegah said Kubi had the hint that the police were looking for him and therefore travelled to the shrine for protection.
