Notorious criminal jailed 10 years

Nkoranza (B/A), March 15, GNA - The Nkoranza District Magistrate has sentenced Kwame Frank, a 25-year-old notorious criminal from Domeabra in the Nkoranza District of Brong Ahafo, to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for committing various offences.

Kwame was found guilty of stealing, causing unlawful harm and threatening the life of another person.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Augustine Webura told the court presided over by Mr Justice George K. Addae that, Guinness Ghana Limited organised a raffle draw on December 4, last year, at the Holland Base Restaurant at Kassadjan, a suburb of Nkoranza.

After the draw, the matron of the restaurant realized that 23 of imported chairs valued at about eight million cedis were missing. He said on February 24 this year, some receptionists at the restaurant saw two of the stolen chairs in a barbering shop at the Zongo area of Nkoranza and quickly reported to the police.

According to the prosecutor, the police arrested the owner of the shop, Mr Kwaku Worae, who led the police to arrest one Kwadwo Appau, whom he claimed sold the chairs to him.

He said at the police station, Appau said it was Kwame who gave the chairs to him to sell, so Appau went with the police to Kwame's house at about 0430 hours on February 27 this year.

Chief Inspector Webura said the eight policemen that went to Kwame's house had a hectic time arresting him, as he resisted fiercely. He said again, on February 12 at Tankor in the same district, Kwame was engaged in a fierce fight with one of the youth of the area at a funeral and when they were separated, he rushed to a nearby house and took a cutlass to attack the head of the bereaved family head. The prosecutor said at another time, Kwame without any provocation attacked Mr Kwabena Adjei, a carpenter, at the Nkoranza lorry station on February 15, this year.

Chief Inspector Webura said Kwame hit Mr Adjei on the head with a hammer and had to be rushed to the St. Theresa's Hospital.
