Obuasi (Ash), Jan 27, GNA - Dauda Mohammed 22, described by the Obuasi police as a notorious criminal was on Thursday jailed 20 years in hard labour by the Obuasi circuit court.

Dauda, also known as Ninja and Capadona pleaded guilty to robbing one Richard Coffie of Obuasi at gunpoint.

Dauda, who is already serving a six-year imprisonment term for causing harm, has other cases pending at the Ashanti regional tribunal including an alleged rape case and armed robbery.

Detective Chief Superintendent Gipsy Owusu, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr E.A Asante, that the accused was a notorious criminal who together with his gang attacked innocent people and robbed them of their valuable items including monies and mobile phones. He said they normally operated at night and at drinking bars, petrol filling stations and dark spots.

Chief Superintendent Owusu said on November 20, 2006, Dauda attacked the complainant at gunpoint and robbed him of his mobile phone and cash of 60,000 cedis.

The prosecutor continued that when the complainant resisted initially, the accused warned that he would shoot him if he dared. In the process, Dauda's gang joined the attack and subjected the complainant to severe beating during which he was injured. Chief Superintendent Owusu said Dauda was later arrested at his hide out in Kumasi and was charged with the offence.
