Nsawam, May 19, GNA - The Nsawam police are interrogating three armed robbers who were arrested at Gyankrom and Adamukatakyi, suburbs of Nsawam in the Akuapem South District.
Superintendent Otchere Boapea, Police Commander in charge of Nsawam told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Nsawam after an identification parade held at Nsawam at the weekend.
He gave the names of the robbers as Ali Mohammed, Eric Osae and Inusah Nuludin who were arrested in their hideouts at Djankrom, Ofankor and a place near the Nsawam Mobil filling station respectively. Supt. Boapea said four wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and an amount of 2.505 million cedis were found in Nuludin's pocket.
The Commander said the robbers were arrested upon a tip off during patrols organised by the police to clamp down on criminals in the area. Supt. Boapea said the robbers who were armed with local manufactured pistols, cudgels, machetes and axes also shot one of their victims, Mr. Collins Darko, a storekeeper in the arm and wrist. He is responding to treatment at Nsawam Government Hospital.
He stated that so far ten suspected criminals arrested by the Nsawam police who were attacking market women along the main railway line near the River Densu had been tried and jailed.
They were Morro Farouku alias Simon, 26, Eric Kofia alias Paapa 19, leader of the gang jailed four years each with hard labour. The others who received two-year term each included Ibrahim Zibo alias Mark Weiwei 21, Osumanu Mohammed 23, and Kwabena Boateng alias Bordoor 26.
The rest were Isaac Wiafe Koomson 20, Felix Tetteh 20, Isaac Bonney alias Eric Asare 19, Yussif Bukari alias Issokay 25, and Safiru Ibrahim alias Ground Shaker 20.
