Tema, Aug. 24, GNA - The Tema Circuit Court 'A' on Monday granted a 25-year old nursing mother 10,000 Ghana Cedis bail with three sureties of which two are to be justified, for possessing fake dollars. Ernestina Ahiadada, whose plea was not taken for having in her possession fake currency notes, would re-appear in court on October 01, 2009.

The prosecution told the court presided over by Mrs Lorinda Owusu that at about 2100 hours on July 30 this year, police personnel from the Ashaiman District Police, went on snap check duties at Adjei-Kojo Junction.

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere, said during the snap check, the driver of a Kia Pride Saloon car driving at top speed from Klagon towards Adjei-Kojo, failed to stop when signalled to do so. Chief Inspector Otchere said due to the non availability of a vehicle for the police, the personnel were unable to chase the vehicle. He said some few moments later, concerned residents called and informed the police of a vehicle that had been grounded in the mud on the Adjei-Kojo-Santao road.

The prosecution said the stuck vehicle turned out to be the same vehicle that earlier sped away during the snap check. Chief Inspector Otchere said the accused person was spotted at the scene with three bags including a black brief case, which upon inspection, contained quantities of US dollar notes suspected to be counterfeits.

The prosecution said Ahiadada was sent to the Ashaiman Police Station together with the bags, where it was detected that the brief case contained 47,480.00 of the suspected fake currency. The prosecution said the accused confirmed that her husband Alfred Kwame Tsyi, alias Owusu, a 30-year old estate developer, and one Samuel, driver of the vehicle, absconded when it got grounded. During interrogation, the accused person told the police that she and her two-month-old baby boy arrived in the country on June 28 this year from New York, but she could neither produce her passport, nor the baby's, the prosecution concluded. 24 Aug 09
