Nyinahin assassination attempt: Chief suspects Uncle

Chief of Nyinahin, who has been the target of assassination by a gang in his jurisdiction, has accused his Uncle of being behind attempts on his life.

“There’s one man that I highly suspect that he is behind it. He is my uncle. I had a case with him: he was putting up a house where we have funerals and I told him I’ll give him another place instead of where he was putting up the house. Since then, we are not on good terms and he is behind most of the things that happen there,” Nana Twum Boateng Amampene II told Class News in an interview.

Gun-toting and machete-flying gangsters numbering about 10 stormed the palace of the chief in the Atwima Mponua district of the Ashanti Region on Sunday evening, in an attempt to harm the chief.

The marauding gang laid siege to the palace and fired sporadic gunshots within its precincts for about two hours, before vandalising the place, Class News’ Ashanti regional correspondent Frank Aboagye Jackson reported.

He said Sunday’s onslaught was the second attempt by the blood-baying gang, who are intent on dethroning Nana Twum Boateng Amampene II, who has been taking refuge in Accra, with his entire family, ever since the first attempt on his life three months ago, by the same gang.

Frank Aboagye Jackson said the gang blocked a major road that led to the palace before going on the rampage and ransacking the empty palace. They also set fire to some regalia and other property kept in the palace.

Apart from being a chief, the Nyinahinhene, who has been on the throne for 15 years, is also a lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon and Zenith College, La – both in Accra.

The Police Command in the Atwima Mponua District has said it is on the alert to foil another attack by the gang.
