A robbery attack at Tinga in the Bole District of the Northern region where a gas explosion killed more than six (6) people last week, has left one person dead and one other injured.
Iddi Abu, 26, a galamsey operator was reportedly shot dead and his friend Mohammed injured when the suspected robbers attacked them Tuesday evening on their way from Gui, a mining site in the area.
Confirming the incident to Starr News' regional correspondent Eliasu Tanko, the Bole District Police Commander, ASP David Azumah said the incident occurred at about 7:30pm on Tuesday.
“We received information around 11:30 pm that there was a armed robbery attack at Gui, a galamsey community…a gentleman aged about 26, by name Iddi Abu was riding a motor bike from Gui to Bole so on reaching a section of the road near Tinga, they were attacked by four armed men and Abu was shot dead and his friend with whom he was riding with, by name Mohammed Wahab, sustained some injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Bole Government hospital”.
ASP Azumah noted that the body of the deceased have been deposited at the Bole Government hospital while the suspects bolted away with stolen items from their victims.
The Police is yet to make any arrest and have appealed to residents to volunteer information.
Meanwhile, some victims of Sunday's tragedy where a long vehicle travelling to Wa, Upper West regional capital, exploded at the Tinga market have been treated and discharged.
