Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Alex Acquah, the Oti Regional Commander, has intercepted a DAF long trailer with registration number GW 1943-09, after receiving intelligence about a suspected smuggling operation.

The truck with the inscription “Tom Winter,” appeared empty but had been modified with six secret metal plate compartments beneath its axle.

During the search conducted in the presence of suspect, Amidu Jubril, 40-year-old, officers discovered 4,000 parcels of compressed dried leaves wrapped in yellow masking tape suspected to be narcotics. In addition, the substances were carefully concealed within the hidden compartment.

The police impounded the truck and retained all the exhibits for evidence while the suspect, Jubril, had been detained and assisting with the ongoing investigation.

DCOP Acquah assured residents that he would not leave no stone unturned in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.

He emphasised that police personnel would be vigilant at all barriers across the region, ensuring that those involved in drug trafficking were brought to justice.

He added that the Oti Regional Command was committed to combating drug related offenses and protecting the communities

The operation highlights law enforcement’s use of intelligence to uncover sophisticated smuggling methods such as modifying vehicles with secret compartments to hide large quantities of drugs. Oti Regional police bust massive narcotics haul hidden in empty truck
