Palmwine-tapper convicted for stealing cock

Hohoe, May 24, GNA - Awudu Issifu, a palmwine-tapper has been convicted by, Hohoe Circuit Court for stealing a cock, valued at five Ghana Cedis, a property of Mr William Gbadago, a retired policeman. Issifu, pleaded guilty to stealing the cock and was bonded in the sum of GHc 500 with a surety to be of good behaviour for a period of 12 months or in default, serve six months in hard labour imprisonment. Police Chief Inspector, Mr R. E. N. Abbey, prosecuting told the court that complainant, who rears domestic fowls, detected the loss of a cock and began searching for it in the neighbourhood, on April 12, this year. He said three days after, the complainant, who suspected Issifu confronted him fiercely, after, which he admitted the crime. Mr Abbey said Issifu then led complainant to a witness, whom he sold the cock to and it was retrieved. He said the convict was subsequently escorted to the Police station with the exhibit and handed over to the police on duty. Mr Abbey said Issifu was charged with the offence after investigations and consequently conviction.
