A well-known street preacher in Nkawkaw, Kwabena Ofosu, has walked free from court after the Nkawkaw Magistrate Court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties for his alleged role in a public disturbance involving the Kwahu West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Tamimu Halidu.

The evangelist is facing allegations of verbally abusing the MCE and provoking members of the public to jeer at him during an encounter in town.

Ofosu, whose preaching activities often involve the use of high-volume sound systems at busy locations such as the Central Market and Agbogloshie enclave, is said to have drawn the attention of municipal authorities due to complaints of excessive noise and disruption.

Court documents indicate that trouble ensued when the MCE reportedly approached the preacher and requested a reduction in the volume of his loudspeakers.

The request is alleged to have triggered a heated exchange, during which Ofosu allegedly directed abusive language at the municipal boss.

Following the incident, the evangelist was picked up by the police and held at the Nkawkaw Central Police Station before being put before the court.

Presiding over the matter, Jehosaphat Akyere granted bail and imposed an additional condition requiring the accused to report weekly every Wednesday to the police.

The court has scheduled the next hearing for 5 February 2026.
