The members of the National Democratic Congress in the Asante Mampong Municipality, who accused former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Daniel Apau Mr Ohyeamang, of graft have hailed the efforts of Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
In June this year, the youth petitioned the President and the security agencies to investigate the former MCE accusing him of looting and misapplying public funds.
Mr Kenneth Collins Bonsu, a member of the group, told the Ghana News Agency, on Wednesday, that members of the group were very satisfied with the work of ECOCO so far on interrogating the MCE and other assembly officials cited in their petition letter.
He said ECOCO had also invited other witnesses who had, subsequently, submitted evidences.
Mr Bonsu said the Municipality faced huge social and economic problems from bad roads, lack of potable water, school infrastructure to poor sanitation.
Duty-bearers should, therefore, not misapply public resources meant for improving the well-being of the people.
A letter, jointly signed by Mr Ayean Frimpong, Mr Kenneth Collins Bonsu, and Mr James O. Peprah, petitioned the President to conduct a thorough investigation into the activities and conduct of the former MCE.
However, Mr Ohyeamang has denied any wrongdoing and threatened to take the petitioners to court.
The President, meanwhile, has relieved the MCE of his post.
