The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Circuit Court has sentenced a 22-year-old driver to 12 years imprisonment in hard labour for threatening and robbing a man of his mobile phone.

Isaac Frimpong pleaded guilty to the charges and the Court presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire convicted him on his own plea.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Felix Akowuah prosecuting, told the court that both the complainant, Festus Mahama, and the convict lived in Kaase, in Kumasi.

He said on August 28 last year, at about 1330 hours, Mahama, accompanied by two witnesses in the case, were walking along the Asokwa-Ahodwo road near Big ‘J’ Fuel Station.

ASP Akowuah said from nowhere, Frimpong approached and ordered the complainant to surrender his Nokia mobile phone valued at GH¢250.00.

He said the complainant initially refused, but the convict drew out a cutlass and plier from his pocket and warned the complainant that he would kill him if he tried to resist, he thus surrendered the phone.

The Prosecution said two days after the incident, the complainant spotted the convict around the Kumasi Brewery Limited area and with the help of some young men, the convict was arrested and handed over to the Police.

ASP Akowuah said the convict during interrogation told the Police that he had sold the phone to someone working at the Kumasi Abattoir.

The Prosecution said upon further investigations, the phone was retrieved and the accused subsequently charged with the offence.
