Plumber appears in court for stealing EC's pen drive

Leonard Tampori, a 32-year old plumber, on Tuesday appeared before Takoradi Circuit Court for allegedly stealing and tempering with registration equipment.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to re-appear on April 13.

Police Inspector Fuseini Yakubu said, around noon on April 05, the accused registered as a voter at the Club 51 Registration Centre at Sekondi.

He said after he departed from the centre, registration officials there who are witnesses in the case detected that a pen drive belonging to the EC which was used as a back up for the exercise was missing.

Inspector Yakubu said the accused was immediately suspected and the matter was reported to the Police.

He said the Police dispatched a team to search for the accused who was arrested at a ghetto at Sekondi.

Inspector Yakubu said during a body search, the pen drive was found in the underpants of the accused.

He said the accused admitted the offence in his caution statement to the Police and was charged after further investigations.**
