Plumber arraigned before court for supplying drugs

A 25-year-old Plumber, Abdul Rahman, has appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for supplying 65 packs of substances and 61 pieces of whitish powdered substance suspected to be narcotic drug.

When the case was called on Wednesday morning, Abdul Rahman pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh remanded him to reappear on March 29 for trial.

The prosecution, Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu told the court that the complainants are police officers stationed at Nima Divisiona, while the accused person is a plumber and lives at Accra New Town.

He said on March 10, the complainants embarked on a swoop within the Nima and New Town environs to clamp down criminal activities, especially drug peddlers.

He told the court that in the course of the exercise, Abdul Rahman was spotted at a base near Accra New Town and upon seeing the police, he threw away a pink polythene bag on the ground.

The prosecution said, he was however arrested and when the bag was searched in his presence 65 packs of substances and 61 pieces of whitish powdered substance suspected to be narcotic drugs were found in it.

He said the Abdul Rahman was escorted to the Nima police station together with the substance where a formal complainant was lodged.

Police Chief Inspector Adu said, the accused person in his caution statement denied ownership of the exhibits.

He said the exhibits would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory for analytical examination and a duplicate docket would be forwarded to the Attorney General’s office for advice.
