Sunyani, Feb. 05, GNA - Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr. Kwaku Opare Addo, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander has called on the general public to assist the police in performing their cardinal duty of maintaining law and order.
He stressed that, "maintaining peace, policing is a partnership exercise with all law-abiding citizens and not the sole preserve of the police alone", he stressed at a regional WASSA get-together at the regional police headquarters in Sunyani.
DCP Opare Addo urged the police personnel to reflect on their activities during the past year and be determined to exhibit adequate self-discipline "to be able to meet the demands of our publics". "The celebration of the country's independence jubilee anniversary this year adds an onerous task on us to offer meritorious service to the people and the nation as a whole.
"We certainly have to exhibit that the country has a truly reliable and trustworthy police service", the regional commander added. DCP Opare Addo commended the media for charting a cordial and mutual relationship with the police in maintaining the congenial atmosphere for the steady socio-economic development of the people and the region.
In solidarity messages, service commanders in the region pledged their continued support and co-operation in maintaining peace to accelerate the region's development, especially during the jubilee anniversary celebrations.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Yaw Sarfo Adu, Mim district police commander, Sergeant Daniel Oppong and Constable William Saka, driver, both of the regional headquarters were presented with awards for their meritorious services.
ASP Adu received a double decker refrigerator, while Sgt Oppong and constable Saka took home a table- top fridge and a 21-inch colour television set respectively. 05 Feb. 07
