The Homicide Unit of the Ghana Police Service has taken over investigations into the gruesome killing of a 13-year-old boy at Abuakwa, near Kumasi.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammed Tanko, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer told the Ghana News Agency on Thursday that personnel from the Unit arrived in Kumasi on Wednesday to commence their investigations.

He said the police were yet to establish concrete evidence about the involvement of two suspects being held in connection with the murder.

Master Isaac Akwasi Opoku, a Junior High School (JHS) pupil had his throat slit with the head nearly severed by unknown persons on last Monday's night while asleep with members of his family.

His mother and sister were also slashed with machete by the assailant. The woman, Mrs Felicity Opoku is on admission at the Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), while the daughter has been treated and discharged.

The incident occurred barely two weeks after the death of the boy’s father, Pastor Johnson Opoku, Head Pastor of King Jesus Anointing Fire Ministry at Asuoyeboa, Kumasi.

Two suspects, Pastor James Akwasi Appau, a pastor of the King Jesus Anointing Fire Ministry, and Kofi Adjei, an uncle of the deceased head pastor, are being held by the police in connection with the case.
