The Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Wisdom Lavoe, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Tamale, noting that the arrests formed part of intensified efforts to clamp down on criminal activities.

According to a report by adomonline.com on March 13, 2026, 55 of the suspects have already been arraigned before court, while 57 others remain under investigation.

He further noted that 46 of the suspects are currently awaiting trial as investigations continue into the alleged offences.

The regional commander also disclosed that the command has constituted a new special task force known as the Red Maria Team to replace the IGP Special Operations Team, which was recently withdrawn from the region.

“We want to assure the public that the Red Maria Team has come to stay, and we need cooperation from the general public to volunteer vital information on the hideouts of criminals,” he said.

During the operations, police seized 41 motorbikes suspected to have been used in criminal activities, the report added.

Some of the areas targeted during the raids included Aboabo Forest, Moonshine Hotel, and Kumbungu Forest, which authorities believe have served as hideouts for suspected criminals.

DCOP Lavoe added that the police will soon engage traditional authorities in the region by visiting several traditional palaces to reassure residents of their commitment to improving security and maintaining law and order.
