Accra, Aug. 26, GNA - The Police at Adenta in Accra have arrested a 42-year-old man who had posed as an official of the Bureau of National Investigations and extorted money from some members the unsuspecting public. Police said David Kwashiegah sometimes also claimed to be a military officer from Burma Camp, who could assist young men to be recruited into the Armed Forces and the Police Service. The District Commander of Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Yaw Tettegah told the Ghana News Agency that many young people desirous of joining the military or the Police paid between GHc500 and GHc1,000 to Kwashiegah who later went into hiding. DSP Tettegah said Kwashiegah also associated himself with land guards who operated at the Japan Motors and Katamanso areas and extorted large sums of money from people with the promise to sell them land in the area.

Police said one of Kwashiegah's victims saw him last Thursday selling a parcel of land to some people at Japan Motors area and quickly alerted the Adenta Police who apprehended him. Since his arrest, four other persons have lodged complaints against him for duping them. DSP Tettegah asked all those who have been duped by Kwashiegah to contact the Adenta Police. 26 Aug. 08
