The Greater Accra regional police have arrested Kwasi Ahiadalakpa, a 50-year-old blacksmith for illegally manufacturing local guns.
The police said, on July 4, 2013 at about 5.00am personnel from the Accra Regional Police Command acting upon a tipoff proceeded to Adeiso in the Eastern Region and arrested the suspect, Kwasi Ahiadalakpa who is a blacksmith.
DCOP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, Greater Accra regional Police Commander speaking to the press Sunday said a search conducted in his blacksmith shop led to the recovery of several locally manufactured guns.
The police uncovered ten locally manufactured SB shot guns, five locally manufactured pistols, assorted tools used in the manufacturing of weapons, seven empty cartridges, four live cartridges and 5 un-assembled SB shot guns.
DCOP Yohuno said upon interrogations, Kwasi Ahiadalakpa claimed ownership of the weapons and said he is a licenced blacksmith, but has failed to produce the licence.
The police revealed that investigation is still on-going and the suspect would be put before court for the offence of Possessing/Manufacturing Firearm without Lawful Authority.
