Police arrest national security operative for assaulting city guards

Tarkwa (W/R), Nov. 10, GNA - The Tarkwa Divisional Police Command, has arrested one Alfred Nana Afedzi, who claimed to be a National security operative for attempting to handcuff some municipal guards who were conducting road traffic duties on Tuesday. A police source told the Ghana News Agency that the suspect who was driving a saloon car in Tarkwa overtook a number of vehicles on the road leading to the obstruction of traffic. The source said when the suspect, who was in mufti, was question by the guards, he became offended, hit two of the guards on the head and attempted to arrest them.

A police officer who was passing by intervened and took Afedzi and the guards to the Divisional Command. Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, Kwadwo Antwi-Tabi, directed that the suspect's identification card and other documents in his possession should be investigated to establish the veracity of his claim while the charge of assaulting public officers performing their duties is preferred against him.
