The Ghana Police Service have arrested a suspected notorious land guard in Abokobi following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered a cache of weapons allegedly linked to criminal activities in the area.

The suspect, identified as Saviour Kojo Ekpe, 45, was arrested on March 5, 2026, after the NOD Surveillance Unit received intelligence that he had been terrorising residents within Abokobi and surrounding communities.

According to the intelligence gathered, Ekpe was allegedly in possession of several firearms which he reportedly rented out to criminals to aid their operations.

Acting on the information, "two surveillance teams were deployed to the area to monitor the suspect and effect his arrest. The operation led to the successful apprehension of Ekpe at his residence in Abokobi."

"A search conducted in his room led to the retrieval of several weapons and ammunition. The items seized included four pump-action guns, 101 AA/BB live cartridges, one jack knife, a Glock pistol marked 'Austria,' and 17 rounds of 9mm live ammunition."

Police officials said the suspect was subsequently transported to the office for further questioning.

During interrogation, Ekpe reportedly admitted ownership of all the weapons found in his possession. However, he was unable to provide a convincing explanation for possessing the firearms and ammunition.

He reportedly told investigators that he used one of the weapons for hunting, another for the protection of his home and another for his personal safety.

Investigators say the explanations provided by the suspect appear inconsistent with the quantity of weapons and ammunition discovered, reinforcing intelligence that the firearms may have been rented out to individuals involved in criminal activities.

"In a related development, a second suspect identified as Emmanuel Abbey was also arrested," police said in a statment.

Police say Abbey is alleged to be an accomplice of Ekpe and is being investigated for threatening the life of a complainant connected to the case.

Both suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The seized weapons and ammunition have been retained by investigators as exhibits to support the ongoing investigation.
