Police arrest suspected goat thieves

Techiman (B/A), Aug. 12, GNA - The police have arrested three persons suspected to have stolen six goats and six sheep at Kenten in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The suspects, Aminu Yussif, 30 years, Mohammed Abudulai, 29 and Abubakari Rufar, 21, are all butchers in Tamale.

One of the goats, which was pregnant, gave birth to two male kids at the police charge office in Techiman.

Chief Inspector Tommy Thompson of the Techiman police station told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the police had a tip-off that the suspects were keeping the tethered goats and sheep in a private Ford vehicle with registration number GE 2342 W at Kenten.

He said he quickly sent some policemen, who went and busted the suspects, together with the private Ford vehicle.

During interrogation, the suspects admitted having stolen the animals in Techiman.

Chief Superintendent Joseph Antwi-Gyawu, Techiman Municipal Police Commander confirmed that the suspects were arrested at Kenten as they were sending the animals to the Techiman market for sale.

He appealed to the general public to volunteer vital information to the police in the fight against crime, adding that, the identity of informants would not be disclosed.

The police commander said the suspects would be arraigned before court for prosecution, whilst the vehicle had been impounded.

One of the suspects, Aminu Yussif, told GNA they were travelling when their vehicle broke down and did not steal the animals.
