Police awards GHC22,000 for information in Sakumono killings

Tema, Jan 16, GNA - The Tema Regional Police Command has set aside a 2,000 Ghana Cedis reward to be given to anybody that provides information leading to the arrest of the people who murdered a man and his son at Sakomono a fortnight ago. Assistant Commissioner of Police John Kudalor, Tema Regional Police Commander, said on Wednesday that the money was donated to the police by someone who wanted to remain anonymous.

Alhaji Mumuni Hamidu, 56-year-old blind pensioner, and his son Dawuda Hamidu a 20-year-old Computer Science student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) were on January 04 shot and killed by gun men at their residence at Community 18, Sakumono. Mr Kudalor said even though the motive for the killings had not yet been established, facts received from the scene indicated that the murderers jumped into an adjacent house, entered the victims' house and entered the room through the kitchen door. They requested for some money but were not given. They shot the two and left.

The Tema Regional Commander said the police needed information from the public to help unravel the mystery behind the killings. On security in the harbour city during the Ghana 2008 football tournament, Mr Kudalor said due to the proximity of Tema to Accra, the police and the military had put in measures to check criminals. He said his outfit would ensure that the period would be incident free and that the municipality recorded only one incident of car snatching during the Christmas holidays. 16 Jan 08
