Accra, Aug. 22, GNA - Two persons, who confessed to snatching eight vehicles in the Greater Accra Metropolis are in the grips of the Police. They are Michael Boateng, a 28 year old trader and Kojo Enoch, a 25 year old unemployed.

Speaking to the media in Accra, the greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Rose Bio-Atinga, said Boateng and Enoch had led the police to retrieve four of the vehicles. DCOP Atinga said on August 10, the Police received information on the activities of the suspects, hence dispatched a team of policemen in plain clothes to clamp down on their activities. Following the information received, Michael was arrested at SCC on the Accra-Mallam Road while Enoch was arrested at his hideout at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.

DCOP Atinga said during interrogation, the suspects disclosed to the Police that as at June this year, they had snatched eight vehicles from their owners.

She said the suspects assisted the Police to retrieve four of the vehicles including two unregistered Nissan Almera and KIA Sephia taxi cabs.

The rest are two KIA Rio taxi cabs with registration numbers AS 2019-11 and GE 5089-11. DCOP Atinga said the Police were making efforts to retrieve the other four vehicles and added that the suspects would be put before court.

In another development, DCOP Atinga said the Police had arrested two persons, who had snatched a Rover taxi with Registration number GT 8827-Z and were offering for sale at Ashiaman. Narrating how they were arrested, DCOP Atinga said the Police had intelligence report that Kwesi Badu, a 31-year-old driver and Mohammed Mubarak, a 24-year old scrap dealer, were selling the car at Ashaiman, neat Tema.

DCOP Atinga said plain clothes policemen were dispatched to the area and they feigned interest in purchasing the car. The suspects, DCOP Atinga said, agreed to sell the car at GH¢1,000 and informed the buyers who were policemen that the vehicle was located at Sege, near Ada.

They (suspects), therefore, gave the ignition key to policemen with the promise that they would meet at a spot to effect payment. On August 16, DCOP Atinga said, when the policemen met at the said spot for payment to be done, the two suspects were rounded up. DCOP Atinga indicated that the two suspects were released from remand at the Nsawam Prisons two months ago under the 93Justice for All" programme.
