Police grabs murder suspect

Accra, Jan. 15, GNA - The Police on Friday arrested a 29-year-old unemployed, suspected of recently murdering a woman believed to be in her 30s and dumping her body at Nsamanpomu cemetery, near Madina. The woman's body, which had "Rasta" braids on the head and with no panties on, was retrieved by the police from the cemetery on December 31, 2004, wrapped in a mat and the legs tied up.

It has since remained unclaimed at the Police Hospital morgue. Mr Patrick Ampewuah, Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations Department, told the Ghana News Agency that following a tip-off, police went to search a house near the cemetery where the murder was suspected to have been committed.

He said they found a pair of lady's panties with bloodstains in a manhole full of stones. Beside it were the remains of clothes, Rasta hairpieces and bracelets, which had been burnt.

Mr Ampewuah said upon investigations, it was discovered that the suspect, Bruce Magyere Kofi Segbege, was seen entering the house with the deceased on the 31st evening.

He said there were also bloodstains on the walls of the suspect's room and also under his bed. A piece of cloth that had been used in an attempt to wipe the blood, was also discovered by other inmates of the house, The deceased's body had knife wounds on her head, jaw and arms when it was found on New Year's Eve at the cemetery.
