The Eastern Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for two suspected armed robbers who are part of a four-member gang that attempted to rob a house in Koforidua-Apenkwa.
One of the robbers was gunned down while another was arrested during a gunfire exchange with the Police but the two managed to escape.
The Body of the deceased is currently at the Eastern Regional Hospital Morgue while the suspect is in Police custody.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, Police received information last night that the suspects were planning to rob a house in Apenkwa Area hence quickly dispatched armed Police Personnel to the scene.
He said when the team got to an uncompleted building where the suspects were hiding to launch an attack on the house, the deceased robber open fire on the Police who also returned fire killing him on the spot.
“They actually laid ambush and tactically moved to where these persons were preparing to attack a house at Apenkwa. On seeing the Police, one of the four suspected armed robbers opened fire and Police returned fire hitting him in the process, two others managed to escape but we were able to arrest one of them.
He added, “a pump Action gun was retrieved, two heavy Crowbars that is capable of opening any door were also retrieved, together with a hood and other things that were also in a bag carried by one of the suspects”.
DSP Ebenezer Tetteh cautioned that the Regional Police Command is on high alert in this yuletide to swiftly prevent and deal with any crime that emerges.
