Police identifies hideout of jail breakers

Sekondi May 5,GNA - The Western Regional Police Command said on Monday that the remaining five jail breakers from the Sekondi Central Prison who are still at large are believed to be hiding in the forest at Badumlrom near Sekondi.

Alhaji Hamidu Mahama, Regional Police Commander, who made this known at a press conference urged residents in the farming community and its surrounding areas to be on the look out for suspicious persons and report them to the nearest police station. The jail breakers who were all convicted armed robbers included Wadrago Adama, a Burkinabe, Adama Iddrisu, a Ghanaian and Mohammed Issah, a Malian who were serving 50 year sentences each. The rest are Raphael Avo Buoro, a Nigerian who was serving 40 years and Yaw Mensah Sampson alias Olabode, a Ghanaian slapped with 45 years imprisonment.

Alhaji Mahama said two convicts, Gariba Amadu, a Benin citizen serving a 50 year imprisonment for robbery and Kwaku Abeiku, a Ghanaian, who was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for attempted crime, were recaptured when the vehicle transported them collided with a taxi near the Ketan Estates on the day of the jail break.

He said three others were recaptured on May 3 at Beposo. They were Mohammed Gariba, a Nigerian, serving a 60- year sentence and Raphael Larweh, and Ebenezer Okorley Tetteh alias Rasta, both Ghanaians serving 40 years jail term each.

The Regional Police Commander said five out of the 10 rifles stolen from the armoury of the Prison have been recovered. 5 May 10
