Police kill armed robber and arrest four others

Koforidua, May 24, GNA - A Koforidua police patrol team killed one suspected armed robber and arrested four others in an exchange of fire between the police and robbers on Monday at a road block the robbers had erected at Adjeikrom on the Osiem-Begoro road. Briefing the GNA at Koforidua on Monday, a police source said some tomato sellers on their way to the Begoro market at 0230 hours had a tip-off that some suspected armed robbers had erected a roadblock with logs.

The driver relayed the information to the police patrol team on the telephone. The robbers opened fire when they spotted the police and the patrol team returned fire, killing one of the robbers identified as Kofi Attah, alias "Man".

The source said with the support of the local people, the police arrested Victor Ahmed Zakaria, a 24-year old Nigerian who was wounded and three others.

The rest are Kwabena Atta, 34, Maxwell Akuffo, 23 and Ahmed Abiola, 26, also a Nigerian. The source said the police retrieved a locally made pistol with five rounds of ammunition and a toy pistol.
