The Ashanti regional police command has arrested six more suspects believed to be involved in the shooting and killing of two police officers who were returning from duty in the early hours of Thursday, 11 January.
The police officers were coming from Drobonso when they were attacked and murdered on the Onwan Mountains near Kumawu.
“All the seven suspects are Fulanis, made up of four persons who were involved in the robbery and murder of the policemen and other travellers on the road, two cattle owners and financiers of the gang and one other who sells and distributes weapons to the gang,” Ashanti Regional Commander COP Ken Yeboah stated in a press release on Monday, January 15.
The police further revealed that two shot guns, one locally made pistol and 17 live cartridges were retrieved from the suspects.
“The motives for the murder were to rob, kill security personnel and take their weapons in reprisal attack on Fulani herdsmen and their cattle at Agogo and its environs,” the statement added.
The law enforcement officers have assured the public of their commitment to bring the culprits to justice and reduce crimes to the barest minimum.
