Kumasi, Oct. 12, GNA - The Ghana Police Service have offered GH=A22,000 as reward to any member of the public that would volunteer information l3eading to the arrest of a suspected hardened criminal who for sometime now had been committing multiple robberies in the Kumasi Metropolis and the Sunyani Municipality.
The suspect according to the police used an unregistered motorbike to undertake his robberies and was believed to be of medium height, fair in complexion and had a tribal mark on his left cheek.
He was said to normally carry out his nefarious activities wielding two AK 47 rifles and also believed to be a Muslim.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bright Oduro, Ashanti Regional Crime Officer told a press conference in Kumasi on Friday that, the suspect usually embarked on his operations in broad-day light. The wanted suspect, he said, had succeeded in committing about five different serious robberies in Kumasi and many more in Sunyani in recent times, resulting in the death of one person whilst also making away with several millions of cedis and other valuables. ACP Oduro said the latest robbery, which was believed to have been carried out by the suspect occurred at Buoho in the Kwabre District of Ashanti last Thursday where the robber was said to have robbed at gun point three workers of the Gold Crest Security Company of about GH=A2600, shot and injured one of them in the process. "We have mounted an unprecedented hunt for this notorious criminal and expect the public to resolve to give the police the lead to the arrest of this suspect", he noted.
In a related development, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six suspected criminals who were believed to be planning to embark on a robbery in Kumasi on Wednesday. The suspects who were all arrested at Aboabo Number Two, a suburb of Kumasi, include; Nashiru Iddrisu, 20, Adama Ibrahim, 20, Abdul Rashid, 20, Nasim Awudu, 19, Klusaly Ali, 19 and Musa Alhassan, 18. ACP Oduro who briefed the press in Kumasi on the incident said a number of items including, a locally-manufactured pistol, two knives, a cutlass, four live cartridges, a military jacket, among others, were retrieved from them when they were arrested. The police, he said, would soon put them before court after investigations.
Committee set up to investigate disturbances at Teleku Bokazo
Nkroful(WR), Oct.12, GNA - A seven-member committee has been established to investigate the cause of the disturbances at Nkroful, Teleku Bokazo and Anwea in the Nzema East District. The committee under the chairmanship of Ms Patience Klinogo, Chief State Attorney in the Region, would also ascertain the number of people whose properties were destroyed, the cost involved and make recommendations to forestall future occurrence to create rapport between the communities and management of Adamus Resources Limited operating in the area.
This was the outcome of a meeting of representatives of the three communities and management of Adamus Resources Limited, convened by the Western Regional Coordinating Council at Nkroful on Thursday. Other members of the committee were representatives of the district assembly, communities, Mineral Commission, Environmental Protection Agency, Concerned Youth Association, opinion leaders and assembly members.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, Western Regional Minister, asked the committee to work in all the three communities and expected to submit its report within two weeks. He said the committee was established to restore peace in the area and cordial relationship between the company and the communities.
Mr Amoah said although the company had a permit to prospect for gold in the area it should collaborate with the communities. He assured the people of Nkroful that work on the construction of a Jubilee School would resume on November 1 this year.
Mr Amoah suggested that the school should be named after Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's First President.
Mr Freddie Blay, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Ellembele, called on youth leaders in the communities to ensure that the youth act within the law. He assured the people that those whose properties were destroyed would be compensated.
Awulae Annor Adjaye, Omanhene of Western Nzema Traditional Area and President of Nzema Manle Council advised management of the company to refrain from interfering with the construction of the Jubilee School. He urged people in the three communities not to unilaterally oppose private investment.
The people opposed surface mining being undertaken by the company because of lack of land in the area for farming and other productive ventures.
