The Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command has mounted a search for the arrest of four alleged armed robbers who attacked traders and passengers at Sampa in the Jaman North District.
It was a weekly market day, and the robbers carried out their operations at the local lorry station with guns, while they rode on motor bikes.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency on the incident in Sunyani, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer, said no arrest has so far been made, but the Police were still making efforts to arrest the perpetrators.
He said on Monday September 14, at about 1600 hours, one Baafi Boro, 25, a chain saw operator from Adadiem near Sampa, reported to the Sampa Police that he was attacked by four mask-wearing armed men, who bolted with his Delta Jingle Motor Bike.
ASP Tawiah said the suspected robbers also attacked and shot the legs of one Dabira Amoro, 43, and took away his GHC3000, and CFA600, adding that to avoid arrest they started shooting indiscriminately and headed towards an unapproved route for Cote d’ Ivoire.
ASP Tawiah said the Police went to the scene and discovered “three live AK47 ammunition, and six empty shells on the ground.
He stated that victim Amoro has since been on admission at the Sampa Government Hospital, responding to treatment, whilst Police investigations into the incident were on-going.
