Prosecution witness tenders alleged cocaine laptop bags

Accra, Aug. 2, GNA - The second prosecution witness in the case of the two 16-year-old British girls arrested on July 2 at the Kotoka International Airport for attempted smuggling of narcotic drugs on Thursday tendered the two laptop bags allegedly used in transporting the drugs.

Mr. Gary Nicholls, Press Officer of the British High Commission, told the GNA that defence counsel prayed the court for an adjournment to enable them to consult the teenagers on the bags tendered. The teens have pleaded not guilty.

The juvenile court therefore adjourned the matter to August 6. One of the girls is said to be of Nigeria-descent with a British passport, while the other is a British of Cypriot-descent. They were about to board a British Airways flight when they were arrested. According to sources at the Narcotic Control Board at the Kotoka International Airport one of the girls had 3.1 kilograms of the substance while the second had 3.15 kilograms.
