Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Angwunbotoge Awuni, Eastern Regional Police Commander, has urged the public to be security conscious on the Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra-Kumasi highway to prevent robbery attacks.

He further advised that motorists on that stretch of the road should not stop to check any noise whatsoever because the robbers used that as a bait to attack vehicles, and gave the assurance that the police would provide travellers security during the festive season.

DCOP Awuni, who was addressing officers and men of the Regional Command and the media in Koforidua, indicated that whiles the police was ready to combat crime the public should also be security conscious, especially when travelling.

He stress the need for police visibility along the Accra-Kumasi highway and urged District Police Commanders to create ‘tent cities’, particularly where they knew robbers and criminals took advantage of travellers, to protect lives and property.

The Regional Commander urged District Police Commanders to help communities to form neighbourhood watchdog committees to help fight crime and to establish a fruitful partnership with the public to enhance security.

DCOP Awuni, who was meeting Senior and Junior officers in the region for the first time after taking over as the Regional Commander, called for support and effective cooperation from the personnel, adding that it was only with their support that he would succeed in tackling the numerous security issues in the Region.
