A 31-year-old radio presenter of Velvet Beam FM station in Asankrangwa, Gyeke Mohammed, has been remanded into police custody by the Tarkwa circuit court for false publication.
He pleaded not guilty and will reappear on the September 17.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police Albert Adiita told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on August 24, the accused person posted a statement on his Facebook wall that read “police personnel in Asankrangwa have been supplying arms and ammunition to one Ebenezer Sam robbery gang in the same vicinity”.
DSP Adiita said the information was attributed to the Asankrangwa police and it further said an officer was actively involved in the robbery gang.
He said based on that information the accused was arrested and in his statement, admitted posting such information on the social network but explained that he had no intention to damage any police officer neither did he do that to cause fear and panic.
DSP Adiita said after investigation he was charged with the offense.
