Tarkwa, June 2, GNA - A 16-year-old labourer, Maxwell Otti, has been granted 20,000 Ghana cedis bail by a Tarkwa circuit court for forcibly having sex with a 13-year-old girl.
He pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on June 29.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police Albert Adiita told the court that on January 27 the victim, while returning from a public toilet, saw the accused and one other person now at large sitting under a tree in front of a nursery school block.
The accused and his colleague invited the victim and proposed love to her and told her that their parents were rich and that they would collect money from their parents and give it to her but the victim refused their proposal.
DSP Adiita said the accused and his colleague attacked the victim, tied her face with a piece of cloth and carried her behind the Day Nursery block where they forcibly has sexual intercourse with her in turns and fled.
The Prosecutor said a witness arrived at the scene when the victim was dressing up and accompanied her to make a report to her parents who made to the police.
The accused and his colleague fled from the town but the accused emerged from his hide out and he was arrested. DSP Adiita said the victim identified the accused as one of the men who defiled her but in the accused person's statement he denied the offence and said it was his colleague who had sex with the victim.
