The Eastern Regional Police Command has warned the general and motoring public, to be alert and report to the Police, persons parading themselves as police officers on patrols and duping motorists.

A statement issued by the police in Koforidua said, a group of fraudsters were parading themselves as policemen on patrol.

The statement said, using vehicles resembling police vehicles, these fraudsters intentionally ran into other motorists, and blamed them for causing damage to the police vehicle through their recklessness.

It said they then demanded money, especially through electronic money transfer, for causing an accident to their vehicle.

The statement said they usually targeted women or men drivers they deemed to be soft.

It advised the public not to transfer money to such people claiming they were police personnel, but must immediately report to the Eastern Regional Police Headquarters, or the nearest police station.

The statement also advised the public not to respond to calls from some unknown persons claiming they had been sent to present parcels to them, and were stranded or arrested by the police, and so they should transfer money to an address for them.

The statement gave the assurance that the Eastern Regional Police Command was investigating many of such cases involving persons who had been defrauded.

The statement urged the public to call the Police Toll Free lines 191 or 18555 or 0302-980641 for help.
