A 50-year-old driver’s mate named by the police only as Kwashie has been killed by armed robbers.
The incident occurred between Zezera and Jwinim near Drobo in the Jaman South District of the Brong Ahafo Region on Monday morning at about 3:30 am.
The mate was in company of his master, Issac Brimah, 51, who is driving the Mercedes cargo truck registration number GT4863 P loaded with plantains bound for Accra.
On reaching the aforementioned spot, three men emerged from the bush and shot at the tyres of the moving vehicle forcing it to scuttle into a ditch.
The robbers then asked the occupants to get down and lie prostrate; an order the driver and a woman believed to be the owner of the load obeyed. The mate however refused to do as ordered and was shot. The attackers thereafter fled into the bush.
Speaking to the DAILY GUIDE on phone, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander, DCOP Maxwell Atingane intimated that police are treating the incident as a murder but not armed robbery because the attackers did not take away anything from the occupants of the vehicle.
He indicated that investigations have started and therefore urged the residents to volunteer information for the arrest of the culprits.
The police commander cautioned travellers to stop commuting in the night to avoid falling into the hands of miscreants.
Kwashie’s body has since been deposited at the Sampah Government Hospital awaiting autopsy.
