Rural bank cashier charged with crime

An Accra circuit court has remanded a cashier and her accomplices for conspiracy to commit a crime.

The accused, Patricia Tweneboah, the cashier, Ali Seidu, 30, Akwesi Owusu, a ‘bookman’ at the KNUST Junction taxi terminal, and Kwabena Ebo, 52, are to re-appear on August 19.

The counsel for the accused persons prayed the court to grant them bail on the grounds that the facts did not support the offence leveled against his clients.

However, the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, only granted Kwabena Ebo, a bail worth GHc10,000 with two sureties, saying his name did not appear in the charge sheet.

The court ordered the Police to send the remaining three accused persons to the hospital before their next appearance in court since they complained of bodily pains.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Cletus Abadamloora told the court that Patricia, who is a cashier at the Fumesua branch of the Juabeng Rural Bank, was not on good terms with her manageress and had started putting up disrespectful behaviour.

Consequently, he said, the manageress gave Patricia a query, which resulted in her transfer to Kwaso, another branch of the bank with effect from August 1, 2013.

“She was not happy with her transfer and so decided to teach her a lesson, hence hiring the services of the three men to threaten her manageress,” he said.

The prosecution said in the second week of July, Patricia with the help of the three men, engaged some thugs for the assignment.

ASP Abadamloora said Patricia assured the men that she was the cashier at the bank and that when they arrived, she would give the money to them.

He said on July 30, at about 0930 hours while workers at the bank were busily providing service to customers, three young men armed with a pistol stormed the bank and demanded to see the manageress.

“They attacked the workers and robbed the bank of GHc81,273, 55,” he said.
