Rwandan dragged to court for allegedly possessing drugs

Accra, Sept. 6, GNA - A Rwandan who attacked a security personnel after expelling 67 pellets of cocaine and attempted to flush them down a toilet appeared before the Greater Accra Regional Tribunal on Tuesday charged with possessing and attempting to export narcotic drugs. Eric Bizimana, unemployed, whose plea was not taken, was remanded into prison custody by the Tribunal to reappear on September 19.

The security personnel, however, managed to retrieve 22 of the pellets soon after he attempted to flush them down the toilet. Mr Frederick Boamah, a State Attorney, told the tribunal that Bizimana, who lives at Alkwaar, Holland, arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam. Personnel from the Narcotics Control Board on duty at the Airport suspected that he was carrying drugs and therefore, escorted him to 37 Military Hospital where an x-ray was conducted on him. The State Attorney said the examination revealed some foreign materials in the stomach of the accused.

Bizimana then confessed to swallowing 68 pellets of drugs given to him by one Mensah in Accra to be sent one Prince who lives in Holland for a fee of 2,000 Euros.

The State Attorney said Bizimana under observation expelled 67 pellets of the drugs.

The prosecution said the accused later expelled the last one and while handing it over to the security officer, the accused attacked the security officer and snatched the 67 pellets, rushed to a toilet and flushed them but the security officer managed to retrieve 22 of them. The State Attorney told the tribunal that the substance has been forwarded to the Ghana Standard Board for analytical examination.
