A Sales Boy, Papa Kwesi, has been sentenced by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing an amount of GH¢7,500.00 belonging to one Rukaya Ismaila.

Kwesi pleaded guilty to the charge and was therefore convicted by the presiding judge, Madam Helen Amoah on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Patience Mario, told the court that the complainant is a business woman who deals in assorted mobile phones and accessories at Tip-Toe lane, Accra, while the accused person is an ex-convict and a sales boy.

She said about two weeks ago, Kwesi who returned from prison, approached the complainant that he needed a job.

The complainant, on humanitarian grounds, employed the convict as her sales boy.

On February 2, Kwesi and other sales boys now witnesses in the case, reported at the shop, and while Kwesi was sweeping the shop, he found a polythene bag containing an amount of GH¢7,500.00 picked it and went into hiding.

The prosecution said the complainant later reported at work and detected that her sales was stolen. All efforts to trace Kwesi proved futile.

DSP Mario said the complainant traced him to Asuom, his home town, where he was arrested.

She said, upon interrogation, Kwesi admitted having stolen the money, while an amount of GH¢1,600.00 was retrieved during a search on him.

The prosecution told the court that during investigations, the convict stated that he used some of the money to buy one standing fun, Television, rubber bowl, Multi TV Decoder and some clothing.
