An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Nasiru Karim, a scrap dealer, to 25-years imprisonment in hard labour for Conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

He was convicted on his own plea.

Chief Inspector K. Adu told the court that the complainant in the case is a Librarian and lives at Dome-Konka, a suburb of Accra.

He said in the early hours of January 25, the convict and his accomplice now at large hatched a plan and came from the timber market, Accra, to Dome to steal from unsuspecting members of the public.

He said the convict and his accomplice arrived at the complainant’s residence around 0230 hours wielding screw drivers and other offensive weapons.

The prosecution said they then forced open the complainant’s door and sneaked into her bed room and stole her items.

Chief Inspector Adu said complainant, who was then asleep woke up and saw the convict and his accomplice packing their booty into a fertilizer sack.

He said the complainant tried to raise an alarm but the convict pulled a screw driver and threatened to stab her, gripped with fear, the complainant looked on for the convict and his accomplice to escape with the booty.

On the same day, convict was spotted by other residents with the items and when questioned, he could not give any tangible explanation; he was then arrested, whilst his accomplice escaped.

Complainant later identified him and he was subsequently handed over to the police together with the items, and in his caution statement, admitted the offence.
