Shoemaker goes in for 24 months for stealing

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Dec. 26, GNA - The Breman Asikuma Magistrate's Court, presided over by Mr Akwasi Asmah Asiedu has sentenced Eric Addo Koranteng, 19, to 24 months' imprisonment for unlawful entry and stealing.

Koranteng, a native of Aburi was charged for stealing a 24-inch television set; compact disk player and a tape recorder, all valued at 2,260,000 cedis the property of Mr Yaw Asiedu of Breman Asikuma. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Gershon Awuyeh told the court that on September 28, 2006 Koranteng unlawfully entered into SSNIT Bungalow House number AH 101 at Breman Asikuma and made away with the items.

The Prosecutor said, Koranteng went into hiding at Mantey Village near Breman Fosuansa in Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District. Inspector Awuyeh said a witness in the case one Seth Nadutey spotted Koranteng at Assin Fosu one night at about 2230 hours and through conversation Koranteng told him that he went to Kumasi to sell his goods and that he was returning to his village, Mantey. The Prosecutor said following a tip off Koranteng was arrested at Mantey and when interrogated he admitted the offence but could not provide the items since he had sold them.
