Bawku (U/E), Aug. 25, GNA - A 32-year-old single mother, Fatima Abubakari, was on Thursday arraigned before the Bawku circuit court for allegedly stealing her boyfriend's new mobile phone valued at 1.2 million cedis.
She pleaded not guilty and the court, presided over by Mr. Alex Ofori Owusu, granted her bail in the sum of two million cedis to re-appear on September 1, 2005.
Detective Sergeant Andrews Yirenkyi told the court that the complainant and the accused, both residents of Bawku, had been in a relationship for the past eight months and that the latter always visited the former at his home.
He said on July 26, the accused visited the complainant as usual at about 1300 hours and in the course of their conversation, the complainant showed his newly acquired Samsung mobile phone to her. D/Sgt Yirenkyi said the accused informed the boyfriend that she had left her handkerchief containing money in the basket of the bicycle she rode to the lover's house.
The boyfriend then left the room, ostensibly to fetch the items and returned to collect his phone after which they continued their conversation, which lasted hours before she finally left for her home. He said the complainant detected the loss of his phone at about 1900 hours and suspected his lover, since she was the only person who had entered his room to see the phone.
D/Sgt Yirenkyi said the complainant confronted his lover but she denied taking the phone. He therefore lodged a complaint to the Police and the woman was arrested. 25 Aug. 05
