Bibiani (W/R), June 13, GNA - The Bibaini police have arrested six people in connection with the theft of cocoa belonging to Amajaro Ghana Limited, a licensed buying company (LBC).

The cocoa, packed in bags, were being transported in an articulated truck from Sankore in the Brong-Ahafo Region to the Tema Port.

The suspects include Kwabena Palico, Paa Kwesi Bentil alias "Gunshot", Simon Yankey, Kofi Owusu, Charles Kwofie and Osei Kofi.

Their seven other accomplices, whose names were given as Kwaku de Gaulle, Asare alias 93Skinny", Dada alias 93Dadio", Kofi Dawere, Boniface, K.K. and Willie are, however, on the run.

Police Superintendent Francis Enorh, Bibiani Commander, briefing the Ghana News Agency, said the truck was carrying 600 bags of cocoa when it developed a mechanical fault.

The driver was left with no other option but to park the vehicle as he left to look for a mechanic to fix the problem.

On his return, he detected that some of the cocoa had been stolen and made a formal report to the police.

Police Superintendent Enorh said investigations led to the arrest of the six.

They admitted selling the stolen cocoa to a purchasing clerk of the Adwumapa Buying Company at Ahiresu near Bibiani.

He said the suspects would soon be put before court to answer for their crime and vowed to bring to justice those on the run.
