Six traders granted bail for possessing items

Six women have been granted a bail of GH¢ 24,000, with one surety each, for stealing and possessing stolen items.

The accused persons are Nana Akua, Abigail Mensah, Gladys Koffie, Queiter Dodoo, all traders, as well as Selina Binney and Anita Brown, both hairdressers.

Nana Ekua, the first accused, was charged for stealing while the rest were charged with possessing stolen items.

They all pleaded not guilty and would re-appear before the court on April 29.

Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, that the complainant, Reverend Emmanuel Boamah-Agyekum, is the Regional Coordinator of Samaritan Purse Darlings Christmas Child.

He is also the sole representative mandated to import and distribute gift boxes containing learning materials free of charge to children in the country.

Chief Inspector Amponsah said the complainant had information that some of the stated gift boxes were being sold in the open market by some people.

He said on February 26, Reverend Boamah-Agyekum sought assistance from the Police and mounted an operation in Tarkwa, and Abigail was arrested with 16 sacks of the said items, Selina and Quieter were found with one sack each and Anita had six.

Police investigations revealed that it was Nana Akua who sold the items to them at a cost of GH¢ 340.00 per sack.

Nana Akua was subsequently arrested and she told the police that someone sold the items to her in Accra, but she could not trace his whereabouts.
