Steel bender charged for robbery

A Steel bender, Peter Kwaku was on Thursday arraigned before court for conspiring with four others and robbing their victims of their valuables including monies and also causing harm.

Peter was said to have conspired with the accomplices now on the run to rob two persons, Solomon Dzikunu of 39 mobile phones worth GH¢ 2, 590.00 and an amount of GH¢ 25,970.00, and Nana Yeboah of two mobile phones worth GH¢ 600.00, one Honda Accord Salon car worth GH¢ 75,000.00, his passport and an amount of GH¢ 440.00.

The accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandor remanded him into police custody to reappear on May 5.

The prosecutor, Chief Superintendent Duuti Tuaruka told the court that the complainants Solomon and Yeboah live at East Legon.

He said on April 8, at about 2230 hours, Solomon who deals in mobile phones and mobile money transfer operations was going home after work with two of his workers in a taxi when the accused person with four others in another taxi crossed them in front of his house and took them hostage at gun point and robbed them.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruuka said Yeboah who lives around the area bumped into the robbery scene whilst driving home and was taken hostage and robbed as well.

He said before the accused person and his accomplices left the scene they shot Solomon in the leg, so he was taken to the 37 Military Hospital where he was admitted and later discharged on April 11.

According to the prosecution, on April 9, the Dawhenya police, who were investigating Peter in another matter went to his residence to conduct a search and saw a Honda Accord parked in the house. The police suspected it to be a stolen car and impounded it.

He told the court that investigations later disclosed that the car was robbed from the owner at East Legon.

He said East Legon Police were informed and Peter was picked up where he later told the Police that he could assist in the arrest of his accomplices but to no avail.
