Steel bender gets 5years for having sex with imbecile

David Kwesi Babiye, a steel bender at Teshie has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for having sex with an imbecile. Charged with carnal knowledge of an imbecile, Babiye pleaded not guilty.

However, after going through the full trial, the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava, found Babiye guilty, and convicted him accordingly. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Veronica R. Ofei, told the court that the victim’s father, the complainant in the matter, resides at Teshie with his daughter (victim).

The victim aged 30, has been receiving treatment at the Psychiatric Hospital. Chief Inspector Ofei said on June 30, last year, the victim left home and did not return. Prosecution said on July 1, last year, the complainant had information from a witness that Babiyie had kept the victim in his room.

Complainant and the witness proceeded to the convict’s house, and found the victim in Babiyie’s room. When the victim was quizzed, she disclosed that Babiyie invited her to his room and had sex with her on several occasions until July 1, last year.

Later Babiyie was handed over to the Police at Nungua and a medical form was issued to the complainant to send the victim to hospital for examination and treatment.
