Kade, August 10, GNA - A 19-year-old student, Samuel Kyei, on Tuesday, appeared before the Kade District Magistrate's Court charged with stealing a laptop belonging to a female teacher.
Kyei pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing and was remanded in Police custody to re-appear on September 10.
Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, that the complainant; Vida Gyamfua, was a teacher of the Islamic Primary School at Nkwantang, but lived in the same compound house at Kade as the accused, a third-year student of the Kade High Technical School.
He said on July 10, the complainant was learning with the laptop when she fell asleep at about 2120 hours.
The prosecutor said a witness in the case who was going to deliver a message to the complainant, met Kyei holding a laptop and was rushing out of the house through a second entrance.
Since the witness thought the laptop belonged to the student, he did not ask him any question.
The prosecutor said the witness proceeded to the complainant's room but found the door open, and when he entered he found her sleeping and woke her up.
The complainant then realized that her laptop had been stolen and the witness later gave her the description of the laptop he saw in possession of Kyei.
The prosecutor said the complainant requested the witness to call at her house the next morning to help identify the thief.
The following morning, when the witness went to the house as promised, he found the accused weeding around the house and identified him as the one who was seen with the item.
A report was then made to the police and Kyei was arrested.
The prosecutor said the item was yet to be retrieved.
When the complainant told the court that she had been threatened by one Teacher Obeng not to appear in court, the Magistrate advised her to make a formal complaint to the police.
