Student jailed 10 years for Robbery

A Circuit Court in Accra on Friday sentenced a student to 10 years imprisonment, for robbing two persons of their mobile phones and 18 Ghana Cedis at Agbogba.

Majeed Nuhu Osman, pleaded guilty to possessing Instrument Intended or adapted for unlawful entry, and two counts of robbery.

The court presided over by Mr Justice Francis Obiri, convicted him to two years on the charge of possessing instrument intended or adapted for unlawful entry, and 10 years each on the two counts of robbery.

The sentences are to run concurrently.

Prosecuting, Chief inspector B.O Yeboa, told the court that the complainants Wisdom Besse and Victoria Antwi are Mechanic and Sales Girl respectively, and residents of Agbogba Suncity in Accra.

According to Chief Inspector Yeboah, Osman is a resident of Madina Zongo.

On June 19, at about 11:00pm, Osman and his accomplice, met at Jamaica, a popular drinking spot and hatched a plan to rob people of their mobile phones on the Agbogba road at night.

The prosecution said Osman and his accomplice who is at large, proceeded to a spot on the Agbogba Road in the night.

Chief inspector Yeboah said while the complainants were returning from church, Osman and his accomplice emerged from their hide-out and attacked them with a chisel and robbed them of their mobile phones and cash of GH¢ 18 cedis.

The prosecution said Victoria, however, raised an alarm which attracted people to the scene.

Chief Inspector Yeboah said, through the help of a police officer, Osman was apprehended and escorted to the Police at Adenta together with the two mobile phones and the chisel.
